This Guy

So, there's this hard-working, smart, intelligent, funny, dedicated, honest, hilarious, singing, dancing, teaching, skiing, motor-biking, tractoring, loving MAN I know. His name is Brandon. And, if you're wondering where you can find him: he's married. TO ME!
And, he's got this thing coming up called the MCAT.....TOMORROW! So, as much as I wish I could post some pictures of him in front of the computer, with stacks of books and flashcards all around him....I thought I would post a funny comic about Doctors...you know, to "lighten" the mood! He has been studying 24/7 for this past week! And...he finally takes this wretched test tomorrow.
So, please pray for him! He so badly wants to do well (obviously), and I so badly want him to feel like he did well! Please include him in your prayers today and tomorrow (and, everyday if you'd like, you know...free prayers are never harmful). And, if you don't pray...start now! Not for selfish reasons like, us needing your prayers, but because with prayer in your life, you will feel 100% again. (just hopped off my soapbox, don't worry).

THIS is American Idol

It's amazing to me that after 7 Seasons, this show STILL doesn't get old (Speaking for myself, that is), and it is amazing to me that it took 7 Seasons for me to GET to an actual American Idol tour concert! My mom bought tickets for the family to go to the concert, and it works in my family. Since I have five sisters, (::read-five singing, dancing, phenomenons::), and two nieces that LOVE American Idol. And, somehow, our wonderful husbands got roped into coming too.
So, the show was seriously a pretty good one. And, we had GREAT seats too. But, you wouldn't know from the pictures I took because i didn't take any pictures of the stage. I think I was too excited about making sure I got pictures of the family there, that I forgot to take pictures of the reason for our family gathering.
But, for a quick recap I will give you a list of my favorites:
1- Michael Johns singing "We Will Rock You"...seriously? An Aussie threatening to "rock" you? Does it seriously get any better than that?
2- Watching my Mom and sister seriously go CRAZY when 1) Michael Johns 2) David Archuleta and 3) David Cook were singing. I honestly did not think my mom had the "School Girl" symptom...but, she seriously jumped up and down clapping and singing. My mom rocks. (And, just for the record: my 10 and 7 year old nieces didn't hold a candle to the excitement of their cute Mom).
3- The "Stride" gum samples being passed out in the parking lot. Since Brandon and I got to the concert 15 minutes late (due to the no free parking problem), we asked the Stride employees for lots of gum. And, whoa...they delivered. So far, I have counted 32 packs of gum. Awesome. (This may or may not receive it's own personal post).
4- How sweet and humble little David Archuleta STILL is even AFTER the thousands of screaming 15 year olds. Seriously, it doesn't phase him. He still does the awkward hand motion ("catch the rainbow", Lynds?). He still does the shy head-move (you know, like when you tell someone you like them and then they hang their head down and giggle?). And, he still is sooo soft-spoken. He has an amazing singing voice, but seriously...when he speaks? Where does that powerful voice go?
5- When Carly Smithson (who is equally amazing) said that Brooke White took her downtown today to see our "Temple", and it was beautiful.
6- David Cook. Amazing. Best performer of the night (decidedly so). And, awesome that his guitar is adorned with his older brother's initials "AC". (He has a brain tumor...if you don't the story behind this...you are sooo behind!) haha. He rocks. No pun intended..okay, maybe just a little pun.

Sunday Thoughts
Brandon and I had our friend's funeral yesterday, and I really think I can say I have never been so uplifted from being at a funeral. Although I don't think it's fair that we have to attend funerals of someone so young, with so much life ahead of them, I think it's safe to say that Craig definitely lived out his "dash". We went to lunch with some of our EFY friends after the service, and one of our friends asked us what we thought about the funeral. Brandon, mainly in jest said, "It was depressing. It made me realize I have a long way to go before I am ready to leave this earth." And, although I don't agree with that (because my husband is perfect :-), I completely felt the same way.
Craig's brother, Kevin gave a great talk on his memories with Craig. One thing that really hit me was when he said, "I am somewhat a cynic when those who pass on to the other side seem to receive over-exaggerrated praise about how they were so amazing on this earth. But, I can say this with a clear conscience: that Craig was the most selfless, kind, perfect person you will ever meet. And I can say it with a clear conscience because I said it many times to many people, when he was alive."
Every single family member contributed in some special way to the funeral, most of his siblings spoke, and his family got up and sang "Our Savior's Love". The strength of the family, especially during the funeral, was truly amazing.
What really got me though, was when his mom and dad stood up as the last speakers of the service. His mom wasn't scheduled on the program (and, I didn't blame her, because I don't think I could do it), but she stood up anyway.
What happened next was especially amazing: his dad said something like this, "This is a very unnatural, and unusual circumstance. It is the worst feeling to watch your son die. Marie (his mom) did all that she could, she threw ropes, she tried so hard. I jumped in the water. But we couldn't reach him in time. We did all that we could." (sidenote: the media didn't have the story right: Craig actually didn't dive into the water, he just went in feet first and swam over to retrieve the oar. They were on a sailboat, so they didn't have a motor. The current kept pushing the boat further from Craig, and the waves kept taking him under. His dad jumped in to try to get him, but before he could get to Craig, he went under.)
As I am sure you can imagine, the audience was already in tears, but then his mom spoke and said, "That night when we went home, I couldn't sleep, as you can imagine. I went into our backyard and sat on a swing we have, and looked up at the stars. I poured my heart out to Heavenly Father. I told him, 'I can not live anymore. The pain, the anguish is too much for my heart to carry. The hurt is too much.' And then, somewhere between my tears, my prayers, and my dreams, the pain was taken away. Many people have said that they are amazed at how strong I am through this whole thing. But I tell them, I am not strong. The power of the Atonement of Jesus Christ is strong. And it is because of our Savior that my pain is gone, and has been replaced with peace."
How true that is! My mind has wandered a few times in thinking, "How would I ever live if I were to lose a family member? Especially if I were to lose my husband?" But, since we never know the Lord's plan, he gave us the perfect answer to any question. We can find all source of strength through the power of Jesus Christ. Sister Decker shared this scripture (Philippians 4:7), "And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."
Honestly, Brandon and I just kept saying how great of a person Craig was. Half of the things that he did went unnoticed. I am grateful for his example, but saddened that through his passing, I am reminded of the way I ought to live my life.

Independence Day Weekend
So, we had a fun, WORK-less, Independence Day weekend. SOO nice.
On Wednesday night we drove up to Chay's grandparent's cabin in Scoffield (thank you Chay and Brady) and spent the night up there. It was soo nice to just relax and hang out with the Wilkinson clan. Because our weekend was so fun-filled, I even made a slide show (below) to document all of the activities. So, if you really are interested in our lives (this is not a test), you can read about our weekend and then scroll down for visuals. (Kind of like a picture book with pictures at the end of the book).
We drove up with TJ and Kimberly, and Mike and Tiffany pulled the "Man's Trailer of Dreams" (a.k.a. four-wheeler, dirt bikes, etc.). The boys woke up in the morning and played on their "dirt toys", and the girls went on a Wun (walk/run) up the dirt road. Okay fine...the altitude was so unbearable that I think I didn't even WALK the trail. Then we came back and had "Girl Talk" for two hours until the boys came back. We spent the rest of the day there and then drove back to Provo so that we could get some rest for our early 5K race in the morning!
We woke up early on July 4th to go and run the Freedom 5K. My awesome Dad decided at the last minute that he wanted to join along in the "fun". And so, he ran with us! I am happy to say that I set the pace for my two running partners, and because of that...nobody was tired except for me! Haha. I am soon realizing that I am NOT a runner.
We thought it would be a good idea to drive the motorbike to the race (you know, miss the traffic/crowds). So, at 6:45AM we got pulled over by a BYU Police car! Seriously....only at BYU. He asked for Brandon's license and since we didn't have any pockets, Brandon said he didn't have it. I was about to pull out my camera (because, we can find room for a camera but not a license), but then Brandon reminded me that if the Cop saw my camera, he would ask where we stored it. Dang.
The race was fun though. I am especially grateful for my cute husband and cool dad that ran next to me the entire time. I thought they would leave me in their dust...but, I think they enjoyed the pace I set for them (i.e. 2 MPH). We were trying to meet up with Josie, but...she runs too fast. And, she has 3 kids. Amazing.
We drove up to Park City that day for another Wilkinson/Hull get-together and it was so much fun! Brandon's family rented a nice condo at the Mountainside Marriott (beautiful), so we ate with the family...and then got ready for the Oakley rodeo! The pictures below don't do Brandon's outfit justice. So I will just have to tell you. He had a belt-buckle that seriously was probably cut right out of an Oak tree. And, his John Deere shirt said, "I Got a Tractor for My Wife (best trade I ever made!)" Haha. We found my shirt from Cal-Ranch, and so I was the "Barn Princess"...we found it in the little girl's section...hence the reason why the shirt comes up above my belly-button.
The Rodeo was so much fun, especially just being with all of the family (His Grandmother, Aunt Shauna and family, and Uncle Chad and Aunt Amy and Kaden). The rodeo had a firework show afterwards, but I am pretty sure that it didn't hold a candle to the Stadium of Fire (which we didn't see). The best part was, after the fireworks show, they had a country dance! It was so much fun. Brandon and I don't really know much on how to do the 2-step, but we still had fun! We even started a line dance, and at least 10 other people joined in on it! I felt famous (Thanks to the EFY days of knowing all of the line dances :-).
We were all crammed in the condo, but it was like a big slumber party. Brandon and I slept on an air mattress that my dad brought us, but I definitely think it had a hole in it. Every 2 hours we were sleeping on the carpet (poor Brandon was over the cement fireplace!). So, all night I was praying for morning to come soon. I might as well just grabbed some rubber and put it on the floor to sleep on!
We woke up and went to the Outlets (where I am pretty sure the boys got burned out after 30 minutes!), and then spent the rest of the day at the pool. It was GREAT! And so relaxing. We played pool volleyball (which I love the rules, by the way...you can practically just hold the ball and then throw it :-). Tiff and I got out of the pool just in time. The boys were "launching" each other off of each other's shoulders (trust me, the Mama Bear in me was saying "This is soo dangerous!"), and TJ went up in the air and landed right on Mike's head. TJ got 7 stitches to the chin. Mike didn't even come out with a bruise.
So, we ate a yummy lunch and then drove back to Provo.
Back to the daily grind.

Last night Brandon and I found out that one of our friends from EFY drowned in Utah Lake over the weekend. Brandon worked with Craig on his BC Team, and we both worked with him in the EFY office during the school year. He was such a stud. Everything you hear that is positive about him is absolutely true. You can read more about it here.

Livin' in Fast Forward
Since I didn't upload my pictures in the right order, we are going to pretend like I am Ace Ventura and you need the "fast forward" version of our weekend. As if you really are wondering about our weekend anyway. But, you know...
First of all, my birthday was on Sunday. ::insert guilt for not calling me/emailing me/texting me:: ha. So, my sweet husband woke me up to a nice breakfast of bacon, cereal, and a mini bagel. I think he was grateful that I slept in until 10:30am so that he could keep sleeping. :-) And then, I might get struck by lightning for saying this: but, birthdays just shouldn't be on Sundays. I mean, it was great to go church and have all of the cute Young Women tell me "Happy Birthday", but really after Church, you can't go hog-wild on the partying. You gotta' keep it low key. And THAT is exactly what we did.
Then I got to open my presents. Brandon is sooo cute, he pays attention to the little things that I say that I need like, athletic socks for the gym and a paper shredder for ALL of the papers I want to throw away of ours. (And of course, a big bag of peanut M&M's). And then, the big present: a really nice, cute (not-too-expensive) purse he won on eBay. He was so excited to give it to me, but then when it came in the mail it smelt so much like cigarette smoke! So, he tried all day to get the smell out. It is a leather purse...and he put it through the wash...and let's just say...it definitely didn't get the smell out. YUCK! So, the wonderful husband of mine spent all day shopping for another cute white purse. But he couldn't find one. So...he gave me a gift certificate to buy myself a new purse. :-) So cute.
Saturday was a long, eventful day. If you remember on this post, I have a brother-in-law that was the child star in "Troll 2". Well, they had a big cast reunion in Morgan UT and we went back. Let me just say that I really can NOT understand how some people have seen this movie over 200 times. I have seen it 5 times...and that should be quite enough. But, luckily...it is going big...which is helping Mike out with his documentary.
Then we were off to Lagoon for a few hours of Amusement Park rides. Thanks to Kimberly, we got tickets for $5 through America First AND we got free dinner. Awesome. It's crazy though, I feel like every year I go to Lagoon, I realize how old I am getting. Even after two rides, I was tired and I had a headache. Sad.
Friday night I surprised Brandon with Tim McGraw tickets. So we headed up to USANA for the big concert. Luckily, most people who like Tim McGraw also like Beer...so that made the pre-show entertaining. We had a family of 5 in front of us...and I think the Dad drank one beer for every person in his family. He was trashed. BUT, it made for a fun time for us. He would randomly yell, "Tim! Tim!" and then stop...DURING the songs. AND, he sang every song regardless of if he knew the songs or not. I think to compensate for knowing the songs, he would use his hands. He was punching the air like Muhammad Ali in 1972! It was awesome.
Needless to say, Tim McGraw, hands down, is the BEST performer ever. I think it's because every song of his I knew...he has SOO many Great Hits! It was awesome.
